Forget about the horses, get into the race for summer vegies!
As the mercury climbs, its finally time to plant warm weather vegies, such as beans, basil, pumpkin and tomatoes (if you haven't already).
Plant climbing beans or bush beans in full sun, although the heritage variety "Preston" (originating from that sunny Melbourne suburb), seems to produce well in the semi-shade of the Edible Eden Design garden, producing tasty stringless beans in good quantities. Seed will be available at November classes.
A popular but space consuming vegetable is pumpkin, although at classes in November, seed from "Potimarron" (a heritage climbing pumpkin) will be on the menu. Potimarron has a brilliant orange colour, good keeping qualities, and is delicious in roasts, risotto and soup. Plant 2 or 3 seeds in a mound of compost; pumpkins love rich soil.
November's classes may be found on the website; the brochures for the next 3 classes are below.
